Holiday Closures

November 1, 2015

Just as the summer season seemed to arrive suddenly, it is hard to believe we are now in the holiday season. Our clinic closures for the season are—

  • Thursday & Friday, November 26th & 27th in observance of Thanksgiving.
  • Thursday & Friday, December 24th & 25th in observance of Christmas.
  • Friday, January 1st in observance of New Year’s Day.

No Longer Accepting Medicaid or Medicaid CMOs

October 22, 2015

It is not a WellCare of Georgia mistake this time.

Effective January 1, 2016 Vibrant Kids Pediatrics will no longer accept Medicaid (including PeachCare for Kids) or any Medicaid CMO—e.g. Amerigroup, Peachstate or WellCare of Georgia. We will not accept these payers as either a primary or secondary payer. As a small business we can no longer justify the losses that seeing Medicaid members cost our business. We cannot accept these losses given the utter frustration caused by dealing with these payers’ bureaucracy and busywork that provides no value to patient care. We have been wrestling with this decision for some time, but the recent fiasco with WellCare of Georgia served only to assure us of the correctness in taking this decision. We regret the inconvenience this decision will cause affected patient families, but the cost of remaining in-network with these payers has become too prohibitive.

Additional Letter from WellCare

August 18, 2015

Have you recently received a—for some a second—letter from WellCare of Georgia informing you that Dr Dickerson is no longer in-network?

WellCare of Georgia—in response to Piedmont Clinic’s request to remove Dr Dickerson from its roster of WellCare of Georgia providers—has terminated Dr Dickerson’s Vibrant Kids Pediatrics provider ID, rather than her Piedmont Clinic provider ID. This mistake is what triggered the sending of the letter stating Dr Dickerson will not be a part of the WellCare of Georgia provider network as of August 31, 2015. WellCare of Georgia is reinstating Dr Dickerson’s Vibrant Kids Pediatrics provider ID effective September 1, 2015—so there should be no disruption in coverage. WellCare of Georgia will restore all affected patients to Vibrant Kids Pediatrics’ roster, and will issue a letter of retraction to each affected patient.

See our earlier announcement regarding this WellCare of Georgia issue below.

Update, September 1, 2015: WellCare of Georgia has not yet corrected its mistake. Therefore, we are not able to see WellCare of Georgia patients at this time.

Update, September 15, 2015: WellCare of Georgia still has not yet corrected its mistake. We regret having to turn away our WellCare of Georgia patients, but we have no choice. This issue was caused solely by WellCare of Georgia’s incompetence, and—unfortunately—only WellCare of Georgia can fix it. We will return to seeing WellCare of Georgia patients as soon as Dr Dickerson is reinstated.

Update, October 1, 2015: WellCare of Georgia has still not yet corrected its mistake. Therefore, we remain unable to see WellCare of Georgia patients.

Update, October 5, 2015: WellCare of Georgia has completed the reinstating Dr Dickerson. We may now again see WellCare of Georgia patients. WellCare of Georgia is still in the process of repairing our patient roster, and will issue a letter of retraction to all affected patients once completed. If you are a WellCare of Georgia member, then you need to contact WellCare of Georgia to ensure your PCP is Dr Dickerson at Vibrant Kids Pediatrics.

Pay your balance online!

August 7, 2015

We are excited to announce that our Patient Portal has been upgraded to support online payments!

Invoices are now shared to your ChARM PHR account, and are viewable under the new Billing tab on the patient dashboard. Navigating to the Billing tab allows you to view all of your invoices and payment receipts. Navigating to a specific invoice allows you to view that invoice, and to make a secure credit or debit card payment for the balance due (we accept only MasterCard, Visa or Discover). If you have multiple invoices with balances due, you must navigate to each invoice and make a separate payment for each invoice (the ability to make a single payment for the total outstanding balance is coming soon). If an invoice has been updated since first being shared to your account (e.g. the application of a non-payment late fee), a link to any previous version is found below the invoice.

Online payments are available only via a ChARM PHR account. If you have not set up a patient portal account for your family—and we ask that all families do so—please contact our office to request a patient portal invite email be sent to you. Learn more about the patient portal at Frequently Asked Questions.

Letter from WellCare

August 1, 2015

Have you recently received a letter from WellCare of Georgia informing you that Dr Dickerson is no longer in-network?

This letter was sent to you because your WellCare of Georgia PCP is Dr Jill Dickerson at Piedmont Clinic. Only recently has Piedmont Clinic updated WellCare of Georgia that Dr Dickerson is no longer practicing with Piedmont Clinic—this update is what has triggered the sending of these letters. Unfortunately this letter only states the provider’s name and does not include the provider’s practice affiliation. Dr Dickerson is in-network with WellCare of Georgia at Vibrant Kids Pediatrics. If you are the recipient of one of these letters—and you have been seen by Dr Dickerson at Vibrant Kids Pediatrics within the prior 36 months—you need to contact WellCare of Georgia to have your PCP changed to Dr Jill Dickerson at Vibrant Kids Pediatrics.

She’s had the baby!

April 28, 2015

We are excited to announce that our PA, Mrs Jernigan, has had her baby. The family is doing well—except for Otis, the labrador, who is not happy in his demotion from “first child” to “first pet.” This exciting news also means we are down to a single provider until July. We ask for your patience during Mrs Jernigan’s absence, as we work to meet all of our patients’ needs in as timely a manner as possible. Regrettably we must make the reminder: being rude and ugly to our staff is not going to make an appointment slot appear when we simply do not have the time available. Please, do not delay in making an appointment, as we will have few “last minute” slots during the next couple of months.

Summer Clinic Schedule

April 15, 2015

Hard to believe summer is almost upon us. But it is, and it is time to announce the summer changes to our clinic schedule.

Office Closures

  • Monday, May 25th in observance of Memorial Day. Please take time to remember those who gave the last full measure in service to our nation.
  • Friday, July 3rd in observance of July 4th. Happy 239th America!
  • Monday, September 7th in observance of Labor Day.

Beach Camp

On Monday, May 25th Dr Dickerson will be traveling to Panama City Beach, Florida to serve as the camp doctor for SouthCrest Church’s annual middle- and high-school summer beach camp. Beach camp is the highly anticipated, start-of-summer event for the church’s students and their friends. Over four hundred students are expected to attend this year’s camp.

During Dr Dickerson’s absence for this event, the clinic will be open as clinic coverage has been secured for the holiday shortened week (May 26th–29th). However, any patient requiring a controlled substance prescription refill from May 21st–June 2nd must request that refill by Wednesday, May 20th in order to have the prescription written prior to Dr Dickerson’s departure. Dr Dickerson will be unavailable to write any controlled substance prescription during her absence.

CME Conference

The week of July 6th–10th Dr Dickerson will be out of the clinic attending a Continuing Medical Education (CME) conference. All physicians are required to annually obtain a certain number of CME hours to maintain their medical accreditation. The clinic will be open as normal during her absence for this event. However, any patient requiring a controlled substance prescription refill from July 1st–14th must request that refill by Tuesday, June 30th in order to have the prescription written prior to Dr Dickerson’s departure. Dr Dickerson will be unavailable to write any controlled substance prescription during her absence.

MAPS Conference

Dr Dickerson will be out of the clinic September 8th–11th attending a Medical Academy of Pediatrics Special Needs (MAPS) conference. The clinic will be open as normal during her absence for this event. However, any patient requiring a controlled substance prescription refill from September 3rd–15th must request that refill by Wednesday, September 2nd in order to have the prescription written prior to Dr Dickerson’s departure. Dr Dickerson will be unavailable to write any controlled substance prescription during her absence.

Welcome, Mrs Jernigan

February 1, 2015

We are really excited to announce that Mrs Lauren Jernigan, PA-C is joining our Care Team this February, and will begin seeing patients on Monday, February 2nd. Mrs Jernigan—a native of Fayetteville, Georgia—is a Board Certified Physician Assistant with over four years of pediatric experience. Having begun her medical career as a Respiratory Therapist is another win for our clinic, as most pediatric office emergencies are respiratory in nature.

With Mrs Jernigan’s addition to our Care Team, we are again open to new patients—reversing the very difficult decision we had to make last summer to close the practice to new patients. Mrs Jernigan can see all of our patients for their acute sick and well check needs. In addition to creating greater patient capacity, her joining us allows Dr Dickerson to have more availability in her schedule to serve our patients with chronic conditions.

Welcome, Mrs Oster

January 1, 2015

We are excited to announce that Mrs Leah Oster, BS, ND has joined our Care Team as a Wellness Counselor, providing nutritional and lifestyle counseling to our patient families. Mrs Oster is a licensed Naturopathic Doctor with over nine years of experience. Her naturopathic training is similar in many ways to the biomedical practices we use, making Mrs Oster a natural fit for our clinic.

Mrs Oster is a resource to all of our patient families that want to learn how to improve diet and lifestyle to achieve overall better health. Specifically, she is a counseling and mentoring resource to our families that have a diagnosis of chronic allergy or immune system deficiency, helping them to find success in their journey of managing that diagnosis. Her counseling focuses on the whole person, and diet and lifestyle are central to her recommendations.

Mrs Oster’s services are cash-only, and are not covered by third-party payers. She is seeing patients by appointment only. You do not have to be a patient of Vibrant Kids Pediatrics to see Mrs Oster—she is available to the entire community.

We are open to new patients!

January 1, 2015

In anticipation of the arrival of our new physician assistant, we are now open to new patents—reversing the very difficult decision we had to make last summer to close the practice to new patients. However, we remain closed to all new Medicaid and Medicaid CMO patients.
